Australia Parent Visa Program
This Australian visa is designed for parents of individuals who are Australian permanent residents at the time of visa application submission. For a parent to be eligible, their child must have been a permanent resident for at least two years. However, exceptions may apply, allowing for a shorter residency requirement in cases of special and compelling circumstances.
To qualify for the Parent Visa, applicants must demonstrate the following:
- At least half of your children are either citizens of Australia or permanent residents. Eligible New Zealand citizens residing in Australia also qualify.
- A majority of your children reside in Australia compared to any other country.
- When applying for this Australian visa, you can include your partner and other dependent family members, provided they meet the specified legal requirements.
Validity
This Parent visa is temporary and valid for two years from the issuance date, with options available to apply for the permanent Parent visa (Subclass 103).
How it Works
Parents can join their children temporarily or permanently after the initial two-year validity period of the temporary visa. Sponsors must provide written evidence that they can support, accommodate, and assist the visa applicant during their first two years in the country under the temporary visa.
Applicants must demonstrate their children's eligibility to sponsor them and are responsible for completing the application process with all necessary supporting documents. However, parents are not obligated to stay in the country for the entire two-year period if pursuing a permanent visa is not their intention.
Requirements
- The sponsor must complete all required forms, as must the applicant.
- Various fees apply, including medical examination fees and application fees, typically borne by the applicant.
- Costs associated with document translation are also typically borne by the applicants.
