Dependent Child Sponsorship
Children under 22 years old who are unmarried and do not have a common-law partner qualify as dependent children for Canadian immigration sponsorship. If these criteria are met, you can sponsor:
- Your own child if they are not already a Canadian citizen
- An adopted child
- An orphaned relative
- Your spouse or common-law partner’s child
Eligibility Criteria for Sponsors
To be eligible as a sponsor, you must be a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident of Canada, or a person registered in Canada as an Indian under the Canadian Indian Act. In most cases, you do not need to prove your financial status for child sponsorship, although exceptions may apply in specific situations.
